How is your transition to WCM (Warren Culwell Ministry) going after leaving Cru Staff? As we were ending our time with Cru, some of our Cru friends (and Lauren Claire and Rachel) threw us a going away party. It was a special time to say good bye to some wonderful, godly working teammates. They had a time of sharing that encouraged us about how God has used us in their lives and the lives of (literally) hundreds of staff and students over 41+ years. (Most, if not all, of you reading this played a strategic part in that impact). One of the things that stood out to both of us is how “we have the ministry of presence and caring.” We do love to show up and hopefully bring God’s love and care to others in various ways. Thank you for making that possible through your prayers and gifts. These last few months have been definitely a big change... We both are enjoying more times face to face with men and women in the community and our neighborhood, and we look forward to intentional times reaching out and discipling folks. What are you doing? I (Warren) have been making connections in different places around Austin to find men who want to be discipled and learn how to disciple others. I’ve made connections at Regents with a few dads, as well as at our church. Having lunches, breakfasts, stopping by offices to see men, going on one man’s small group fishing trip, and any other ways to connect with men on a personal level has kept me hopping. As I have mentioned to most of you, I do not envision some large organization or massive strategic plan. My intention is to meet men where they are —in the environments they live in — to lead them in being the best disciple of Jesus (and disciple-maker) right where they live. Together we are leading a Discipleship Intensive Group (DIG) with 5 young couples. The purpose is to build into them as couples to so that they will be able to multiply their lives in their homes and families, communities, work, and churches, and to pass onto the next generation what God has built into them. We love meeting together, starting with dinner each week then diving into rich topics. We just finished working through Counterfeit Gods by Tim Keller, which led to some heartfelt discussion about idols we all can cling to: approval, our family, our jobs, etc. As you can imagine we are all learning a lot!. Over the course of these 9 months, we will talk about how God has wired them individually, marriage, finances, their walk with God, and their vision and calling for their lives. The love, laughter and comradery are such a delight! We are enjoying our time with them as “the older teaching the younger.”
